If you have a registered trademark that you want to protect because of upcoming launches of new top level domains, the first step is to make an application to Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH). TMCH is operated on behalf of ICANN and is a database of brands that exists to support the trademark holders when new top level domains are launched.
As a holder of a trademark, there are mainly two reasons why you might want to register your trademark with TMCH:
1. This application gives you priority to register your trademark in all new top level domains.
2. You also get information if another party is trying to register domain names consisting of your registered brand.
