As a standard, it is important to have a safe certificate if you have website where the visitors or users declare any type of information – anything from credentials to credit card details. The certificate is connected to the domain name and verifies the visitor that they are on the right website.

All certificates also crypt the information that is sent between the visitor and the webpage, and thus in that way prevent interception or hijacking of information from unauthorized parts.

Domain Validated Certificate

For smaller websites that want to quickly get started with SSL Certificates there is something called Domain Validation Certificate. In this certificate, only the domain names are validated and doesn’t include a company name such as EV and OV certificate. A Domain Validation Certificate can be generated by confirming check-ups of the domain name. This fits the best for blogs and smaller websites.

Organization Validated

A certificate that is further validated through the certificate practitioner confirming that your corporation controls the domains, and is entitled to utilize the specific domain. Your visitors can confirm that they are at the right website by seeing your corporation name in the certificate. This is well suited for websites and applications where the users expect a higher security validation e.g. login-pages and e-shops.

Extended Validated

For bigger websites with demands of the highest security validation there is Extended Validation. Here, the certificate practitioner performs a thorough evaluation of the company that applies. This ensures the visitors that they’re visiting the right website because they can then see validated corporation information in the certificate, as well as the green address field that is only available for websites with an Extended Validated Certificate.
